The GLF Schools Foundation was delighted to fund a visit from Little City East Sussex at Southgate Primary School as part of the school's successful school readiness programme.

Designed to support children and families in the transition to Reception, the six-week programme helps children develop the confidence, skills and familiarity needed for a positive start to school. Alongside activities for children, parents have benefited from workshops on bedtime routines, boundaries and school expectations, as well as opportunities to learn more about the school's phonics approach, Read Write Inc.

The Little City experience provided a fantastic opportunity for children to strengthen their speech, language and social skills through imaginative role-play. From working as vets and builders to running shops and beauty parlours, children were fully immersed in purposeful play that encouraged communication, creativity and collaboration.

It was wonderful to see the children engaging so enthusiastically, building new friendships and becoming familiar with Southgate Primary's Reception staff. Through funding opportunities such as this, the GLF Schools Foundation is proud to support programmes that give children the very best start to their educational journey and help remove barriers to a successful transition into school life.
