Mentoring

Sometimes, all it takes is one meaningful conversation to change the way a young person sees themselves or their future. Mentoring connects students with people who can offer encouragement, perspective and real-world insight drawn from their own experiences.

By talking openly about your career journey, challenges and successes, you can help young people explore new possibilities and make informed decisions about what comes next. For students, hearing honest advice from someone outside their immediate circle can be both reassuring and inspiring.

Whether you can commit to a single conversation or provide support over a longer period, mentoring offers guidance when it matters most. The encouragement you give today could help a young person believe in their potential tomorrow.

Work Experience

For many young people, work experience is their first opportunity to see what working life is really like. It can spark new interests, open their eyes to different careers and help them feel more confident about their future.

Providing a placement gives students the chance to build practical skills, experience a professional environment and learn directly from people in the workplace. Whether it's a day spent shadowing colleagues or a longer-term placement, every opportunity offers valuable insight.

A glimpse behind the scenes can have a lasting impact. By welcoming a student into your organisation, you can help them broaden their ambitions, develop their confidence and take their next steps with a clearer sense of direction.

Tutoring and Coaching

Every young person deserves the opportunity to develop their talents and achieve their goals. Tutoring and coaching provide focused support that can help students strengthen their skills, build self-belief and make meaningful progress.

There are many ways to get involved, from academic tutoring and interview preparation to career coaching, leadership development and public speaking support. You might also share specialist expertise in areas such as sport, the arts, science or technology, helping students discover interests and abilities they may not have recognised in themselves.

The knowledge and guidance you offer can have a lasting influence. Whether you're helping a student overcome a challenge, refine a skill or pursue a passion, your support can equip them with the confidence and capabilities they need long into the future.

Volunteering

Volunteering gives young people the opportunity to make a positive contribution while developing valuable skills and experiences along the way. It can help them build confidence, meet new people and gain a deeper understanding of their communities and the world around them. By involving students in meaningful projects and activities, organisations can help them develop teamwork, communication and problem-solving skills in real-life settings.

Volunteering also introduces young people to new environments, helping them discover interests, causes and career paths they may never have considered before.

Whether it's supporting a one-off event or taking part in a longer-term initiative, every opportunity can have a lasting impact. Your organisation can play an important role in helping young people grow in confidence, recognise the value they have to offer and realise that their contributions can make a genuine difference.

This type of experience often stays with young people long after the volunteering itself has ended, helping them become more confident, engaged and ready to take on new challenges in the future.
