There was a host of talent on display when Aureus School in Didcot held its third annual Creative and Expressive Arts Showcase.

The event, which took place at The Cornerstone Arts Centre on 28 March, featured over 80 performers drawn from all year groups across the school.

The audience of over 200 friends, family members and staff were treated to an evening of dance, drama and music, which included solos from several Year 11 students along with group performances from students in Years 7 to 9.

“The school’s third Creative and Expressive Arts event and the pupils were simply amazing – they put on a great show,” said Amy King, Head of Creative and Expressive Arts at Aureus School, who staged the production with the assistance of Head of Music Alison Burbage, Head of Drama Joni McAuliffe, and Assistant Headteacher Hannah Powell.

“I would like to thank my team of staff behind me and the Cornerstone Arts Centre for their support,” she continued. “Parents were very happy with the level of professionalism of the show. Students showed ambition, respect and resilience during the rehearsal process.”

Students starring in the show were equally happy.

Chloe and Teodora said: “We like how we can show off our hard work and how everyone gets to see us in a different light”, and Evie and Angelina explained: “The Cornerstone lets us experience performing in a professional environment and demonstrate our school’s talent to an unfamiliar audience.”

“We enjoyed being part of the Cornerstone, because it gave us an opportunity to experience something new and show people our talents,” agreed Alina and Eric, while seasoned performers Olivia and Queen-Zarah said: “We have taken part in the Cornerstone shows since Year 7, so it was enjoyable to be in it again, as we got to experience being in more dances and to express ourselves through many dance styles.”

“I am always delighted to watch our students perform and this showcase did not disappoint,” added Headteacher Kirsty Rogers. “An exceptional evening where creativity took centre stage, this will absolutely leave a lasting impression on the local community, and, for our students, a lasting memory they will cherish forever. A huge thank you to the team for making this possible.”
