Strong Outcomes Across GLF schools as Phonics and Multiplication Results
BackGLF Schools is celebrating another year of strong outcomes for pupils, with performance in both the Year 1 Phonics Screening Check (PSC) and the Year 4 Multiplication Tables Check (MTC) well above national averages and improving on last year. These results reflect the commitment of pupils, staff and families across our schools, as well as the trust-wide focus on ensuring every child develops the essential foundations for future learning.
Exceptional Performance in Multiplication
This year, pupils across GLF achieved an average score of 23.7 out of 25 in the Multiplication Tables Check, with 60.8% of pupils achieving full marks. These outcomes significantly exceed the most recently published national averages of 21.0 and 37% respectively. The strength of performance is evident across the Trust. All 30 GLF schools recorded average scores above the most recent national average, while 27 of our 30 schools achieved a higher proportion of pupils scoring full marks than the national figure.
Particularly encouraging is the attainment of our pupils eligible for pupil premium. Across GLF, these pupils achieved an average score of 22.8, exceeding the most recent national average achieved by pupils who were not known to be disadvantaged nationally. This is a powerful reminder of the impact that high-quality teaching, strong support and high expectations can have in narrowing gaps and promoting equity.
The Trust’s MTC performance has improved year-on-year, with the rate of improvement outpacing national trends in both average scores and the proportion of pupils achieving full marks.
Continued Progress in Early Reading
Results from the Year 1 Phonics Screening Check also show encouraging progress. This year, 87.4% of GLF pupils passed the check in Year 1, compared with 80% nationally, while 94% had passed by the end of Year 2, exceeding the national average of 89%.
Across the Trust, 28 of our 30 schools achieved Year 1 pass rates at or above the most recent national average, with 10 schools achieving pass rates above 90%.
The overall GLF pass rate has risen from 86.4% last year to 87.4% this year, demonstrating continued improvement in the teaching of early reading and phonics.
While there is much to celebrate, there is also more to do and achieve. Reading remains one of the most important drivers of educational success and life chances. We are proud that so many GLF pupils are leaving Key Stage 1 with secure foundations in phonics and early reading, but our ambition is that every child develops the skills and confidence needed to become a successful reader.
A Collective Achievement
These outcomes are a testament to the hard work, expertise and dedication of colleagues across GLF Schools. They reflect the consistency of practice, ambition for pupils and relentless focus on improvement that can be found in classrooms and school communities across the Trust every day.
We would also like to thank school staff for the care and professionalism with which assessment information was collected and submitted. High-quality data matters because it helps teachers, school leaders and our central teams to understand every child's progress and ensure support is directed where it is needed most.
As we celebrate this year's success, we remain committed to building on these strong foundations and ensuring even more pupils benefit from excellent teaching, high expectations and the opportunities they deserve.
