Frogmore Junior School has officially opened a brand-new sensory garden - an inclusive outdoor space which will benefit all pupils across the school.
The garden is an outdoor space designed with pupils in mind to support wellbeing, emotional regulation, and hands-on learning for every child. The garden transforms what was previously an unused patch of grass and courtyard into a purposeful, inclusive resource.
The garden was officially opened on Monday in a ceremony with representatives from GLF Schools, Wellington College, the school PTA, SSB members and others attending.
The project was driven by Mrs King and the school's inclusion group, which identified the need for a calm, nurturing outdoor environment that could serve pupils with a range of needs.
This provision is designed to meet a wide range of needs across the school and has been created as a whole-school resource. While it will be particularly valuable for pupils who require sensory regulation or a quieter environment, it will also be used for nurture groups, lunchtime clubs and class visits. This ensures it remains an inclusive, shared space that is accessible to all, rather than a restricted area.
The project has been made possible through the generous support of Wellington College, the GLF Schools' Foundation, the school's PTA, and local Councillor Stuart Bailey.
Pupils themselves have played an active role in bringing the garden to life: Year 3 and 4 classes have contributed to a bespoke mosaic for the space and Year 5 and 6 pupils will take part in planting as the weather warms, giving children across the school a tangible sense of ownership over the finished garden.
Emma Rodziewicz, Headteacher at Frogmore Junior School, said: "This garden is something our whole school community can be genuinely proud of. What was once an overlooked corner of our grounds has been transformed into a space where children can learn, explore and thrive. We know how much the environment matters to children's wellbeing and ability to engage with learning and now we have somewhere that puts that belief into practice every day."
“None of this would have been possible without the incredible generosity of our funders and the dedication of our PTA, and we're excited to finally open the doors and see it being used by every child in the school."
Frogmore Junior School is a two-form mixed entry school based in Camberley, Surrey. The school joined GLF Schools in October 2019 and has classes from Year 3 to 6.
