It was back to Ancient Greece, when children from Aureus Primary paid a visit to the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford.
The 60 Year 5 pupils had been studying the era in class and saw their learning brought to life at the museum.
“The visit was part of the children’s STEAM [Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Maths] curriculum, where the children were preparing to create a piece of art based on the ancient Greeks, and they replicated some of the pottery they observed at the museum,” said Assistant Headteacher Sarah Beeton. “This term’s STEAM is heavily influenced by history.”
The trip is an annual event on the calendar at the school, with this year’s visit taking place on Thursday 22 January. Year 5 Teachers Adam Gardner and Josh Mundell accompanied the children.
“It is a special trip for us, because our school is around the site and named after the Aureus gold hoard which was found here and is now kept at the Ashmolean Museum,” added Mrs Beeton.
“It is important because of our links to the Ashmolean Museum, and that this is a crucial part of our STEAM curriculum. The children progress through STEAM from the history of themselves to the history of their community to, finally, in Year 5 and 6, to the history of the world.”
