Marden Lodge Primary School and Nursery has unveiled thousands of pounds of new playground equipment designed to promote physical activity, balance, coordination and strength.

A new ‘trim trail’ in has been installed in the playground, featuring a series of obstacles and wooden climbing equipment and is designed to help pupils with balance, dexterity and coordination. The trim trail has been made possible by the GLF Schools’ Foundation and the generous support of the school’s local councillor on Surrey County Council, Tony Pearce, who awarded £5000.

The school has also unveiled a new ‘gross motor’ playground for early years and nursery pupils. Gross motor skills involve large muscle movements of the arms, legs, and torso, such as running, jumping, and crawling. These essential skills develop from birth to adolescence, supporting balance, coordination, and postural stability.

Sarah Rumbol, Headteacher at Marden Lodge Primary School, commented: “It’s another string to our bow to be able to offer these extras in our playground, in a way which encourages physical activity from a young age. Through these skills our students will grow, learn and flourish physically and socially, and we’re very grateful to those including Cllr Pearce who have helped make this possible.”

Marden Lodge Primary School and Nursery is a one-form mixed entry school based in Caterham, Surrey. The school joined GLF Schools in September 2013 and has classes from Nursery to Year 6. If you would like further information or to visit the school please contact info@marden-lodge.surrey.sch.uk
