GLF schools compete at the Boundless Festival Chess Tournament

Teams of students from 23 GLF schools across the South East have been competing in one of the largest school chess tournaments in the region.  

Meridian High School in Croydon proudly hosted the Chess Tournament as part of the Boundless Festival event, in partnership with Chess in Schools. 

The Boundless Festival is a series of events and competitions, from sports to arts, drama to eco projects, showcasing the extraordinary talents of students. Over 4,000 pupils across all GLF schools participate, spending an estimated total of 10,000 hours rehearsing, training, and preparing in the run-up to an end-of-year celebration event, which this year was held at Twickenham Stadium. 

The Chess Tournament united sharp minds and strategic thinkers from across GLF schools, showcasing focus, logic, and enthusiasm in a spirited and friendly competition.

The winning teams were:

Secondary Winners

  • 1st Place: Glyn School – 79 points
  • 2nd Place: Merstham Park – 69 points
  • 3rd Place: The Beacon – 58 points

Top Secondary Scorers

  • Soham (Glyn) – Gold, 18pts
  • Flynn (Glyn) - Silver, 17pts
  • Anshu (Merstham Park) – Bronze, 16pts
  • Khayan (Glyn) – Bronze, 16pts

 

Primary Winners

  • 1st Place: Cuddington Croft – 71 points
  • 2nd Place: Danetree – 70 points
  • 3rd Place: Greenway – 69 points

Top Primary Scorers

  • Adhithya (Danetree) - Gold, 17pts
  • Arel (Hardwick) - Gold, 17pts
  • Austen (Cordwalles) - Silver, 16pts
  • Andrew (Cuddington Croft) – Silver, 16pts
  • Rohil (Cuddington Croft) – Bronze, 15pts
  • George (Greenway) - Bronze, 15pts

Jak Martin, Foundation Director at GLF Schools, said: “A huge well done to all participating schools and students for their enthusiasm and sportsmanship. The tournament was a brilliant celebration of critical thinking and collaboration. Chess can be a team sport and it was inspiring to see students encouraging each other to be the best players on the day.”
