Didcot young musicians hit all the right notes

Young musicians took the right notes to a nursery to talk to younger would-be musicians about their instruments.
The group of eight from Aureus School, a member of GLF Schools Multi-Academy trust, demonstrated a range of instruments including clarinet, keyboard and guitar when they went to the nearby Lydalls Nursery School.
“The children were able to listen to a variety of different pieces and they were delighted that some of the students had learnt to play pieces especially for them such as the themes from TV’s Peppa Pig and Bluey,” said Head of Music Alison Burbage.
The younger group members were also able to have a go on some of the percussion instruments and enjoyed the chance to make their own music.
“We were very impressed that the children were already able to identify some of the instruments that we had taken. After the event we received a lovely card from them and they had drawn some lovely pictures,” added Mrs Burbage.
“A few children did find the drum a little bit loud but one young boy really liked it and then fist-bumped the student demonstrating the snare drum!
“They had been learning about the instruments at nursery and many of them could identify these instruments so the visit allowed them to see what they look and sound like and hopefully they will want to learn one.”
The Aureus School pupils had decided what would work best and practiced their individual pieces before the visit. Mrs Burbage played Let it Go on the flute and A Whole New World on the trumpet.
“I found it interesting to see how the children viewed the instruments and how they reacted to the different sounds. They were all very polite and treated us very well,” said one of the Aureus group.
It was also a chance for the students to gain confidence in their performances while seeing what impact their music can have on others and the joy it brings.
