Positive choices, self-confidence and respectful relationships have been at the heart of a series of sessions led at one of our schools by the team from Humanutopia.

The social enterprise company visited Aureus School to work with students in several year groups over several weeks, with themes including ‘Heroes Journey’ and ‘Who Am I?’

“We are committed to helping our students grow in self-confidence, make positive choices and build strong, respectful relationships. We were proud to host Humanutopia and its inspiring programmes to both encourage and empower them,” said Kirsty Rogers, Headteacher.

The ‘Heroes Journey’ sessions were designed specifically for peer mentoring, nurturing potential young leaders of the future so they can become pillars of support. They explored areas including communication mastery and self-discovery with the Humanutopia team.

Children from Year 4 at nearby Aureus Primary, also within the GLF Schools Multi-Academy Trust, were invited to join for a session so they can be more confident in secondary school with the chance to experience some learning there while getting used to the environment.

The ‘Who Am I?’ sessions focused on making change happen, overcoming barriers and to inspire the students to raise their aspirations, make positive changes and consider who they have become.

They also had the chance to imagine who they could be in the future, discussing their dreams and goals.

“Witnessing the Year 7 students’ willingness to be open, honest and vulnerable in front of their peers was truly inspiring, and it took immense courage for them to do so. The activities were designed to encourage self-reflection and foster a sense of community. Watching the Year 9 Heroes step-up as mentors was equally remarkable.

“As we move forward, I hope we can continue to nurture this spirit of understanding and compassion in our school community,” said Ms Rogers.
