Stars from the world of sport joined forces on the fairway with players from the world of business to raise almost £4,000 at the first ever GLF Schools’ Foundation Golf Day.

Surrey and England cricketers Will Jacks, Rory Burns and Tom Lawes, Surrey and ex-England cricketer Chris Tremlett, and Golf Pro Harry Pyett, teed up alongside a host of amateur golfers at the fundraising event, which took place on 1 June at Cuddington Golf Club in Banstead.

The day featured both team and individual competitions, including best three scores per hole, nearest-the-pin on the eighth hole, longest drive on the 18th, and a par-3 challenge on the 16th. There was also the opportunity to ‘beat the pro’ with 12 of the 45 participants managing the feat against Cuddington pro and former Glyn student James Crossett.

The players enjoyed a traditional start to the day’s golfing activities, with coffee and bacon rolls served on their arrival at Cuddington. The glorious weather meant they were able to ‘have a ball’ both on and off the golf course, with lunch served outdoors in the sunshine at the Club.

The event came to a close with a prize-giving ceremony, presided over by host and event organiser Jak Martin, Head of the GLF Schools’ Foundation, who also handed out the raffle prizes. Winning ticket holders received a four-ball at New Zealand Golf Club, England Cricket merchandise, a guitar, and a signed photograph of Rodney Marsh’s England debut, as well as chocolates, whiskey and port.

The £3,954 raised, and all other proceeds from the Golf Day, will go to fund opportunities for young people within our 42 schools.

We believe that opportunities have the power to transform lives and funding a variety of activities and experiences in sport, music, the arts and drama helps close the social inequality gap and, in turn, enriches our schools and enhances academic standards.

Thank you to all the golfers for taking part and for your generosity. Each and every donation makes a difference, and we couldn’t do it without the help of our friends and supporters. If you would like to support the Foundation please click here.
