A new children's kitchen has opened at Floreat Montague Park Primary School & Nursery in Wokingham with help from a generous £15,000 community grant from the town council.

The Kindness Kitchen, named by students on the school council, was officially opened by the Wokingham Town Mayor, Cllr. Alwyn Jones and is designed to be a fantastic new space for teaching children the school’s food technology curriculum.

Ingredients for the new kitchen will also come from a large polytunnel on the school site, giving children the perfect opportunity to learn about horticulture, climate and sustainability by growing and cooking their own food at school. It will also be used for special events such as the school’s Culture Fair, where students and families can share cuisine and dishes from around the world.

The Kindness Kitchen will also be used for after-school clubs and will be open for a series of public events with the aim of bringing together local families and communities in the Wokingham area.

Spencer Blay, Headteacher, Floreat Montague Park Primary School & Nursery, said: “Our new Kindness Kitchen will give our students a wonderful, well-equipped new space to learn about food, cooking and sustainability. We are also looking forward to a number of events with families and friends of the school, coming together to share food and recipes, and helping to build even stronger links with our local community. The children are very excited.”
