Epsom and Ewell MP, Helen Maguire, has praised staff and pupils during a visit to Cuddington Croft Primary School in Cheam.
Four members of the School Council, from Year 6, led a presentation about the school, showing their special guest Cuddington Croft’s range of activities and achievements.
During the visit on Friday 19th September, the MP also toured the brand-new library, a vibrant space designed with the help of the School Council.
Last year, the School Council identified the need for a new library, an idea backed by pupils, they then worked with staff and the designer, Abc Book Club, to come up with ideas and managed to secure over £33,000 of funding from the school’s PTA.
The woodland-themed library complete with a 10 foot tree, reading cabin and cosy nooks for quiet reading has been named ‘The Book Burrow’
Mike Skelton, Head of School, said: “We were delighted that Helen Maguire was able to visit our school and very grateful that she found time in her busy schedule to hear more about the school’s achievements. Staff and pupils appreciated the interest she showed in all the activities of the school council, and especially in our brand new library. Having the support of our local MP is so important when our school plays a key role at the heart of our community.”
Helen Maguire MP, Epsom and Ewell, said: “I was truly impressed by the dedication and enthusiasm of the pupils and staff at Cuddington Croft Primary School. The School Council's commitment to improving their school, particularly through the creation of the wonderful new 'Book Burrow' library, is a testament to the value placed on student voice and community involvement. This welcoming space will undoubtedly enhance the educational experience and foster a lifelong passion for reading. I commend the school for its dedication to creating an environment where every child can thrive.”
Members of the Cuddington Croft School Council are elected by fellow pupils, and the 24 members are the ‘voice’ of the children of the school. They meet regularly with the Head of School to provide feedback on key ideas to support school improvement.
Cuddington Croft Primary School is a three-form mixed entry school based in Wandsworth, London. The school joined GLF Schools in November 2014 and has classes from Nursery to Year 6.
